This is a highly decorative antique Japanese woodblock print.
It is in good antique condition - and has recently been professionally re-framed. It has a nice cream colour acid free mount - and a simple black frame. It is as fresh as a daisy and all ready just to be hung on your wall.
The woodblock dates to the 19th century - and is signed with stamps by the artist, publisher and printer. I have sadly been unable to identify these for you yet - but will keep working on it!
This lovely work probably dates to the late Edo period in Japan (c 1860 - 1880).
It is certainly a most attractive example with a beautiful Japanese Geisha wearing a more elaborate and highly decorative kimono. Love her geta - or raised wooden sandals.
She is taking part in a traditional Japanese tea-drinking ceremony. There is a small knee-high table to the right - and on the wall behind are decorative fans which contain the details of the printmaker and publisher etc. The detail on the fabric is just delicious - must have taken ages to carve all those out!
I love all the colours used here - and a good number of colour blocks must have been used on this stunning print.
My antique woodblock is in lovely antique condition - with no nasty tears or disfiguring issues with the paper. No staining or grubbiness.
I have taken lots of photographs - so please look at all of these to assess the condition. There might be a few reflections as I have had to photograph through the glass - I apologise for these and re-assure you white reflections etc are not on the actual print.
With its good quality new frame etc - it is certainly very fairly priced.
