These are a fine large-sized pair of antique Victorian Staffordshire dogs - they take the form of a pair of seated chimney spaniels.
They are genuine Victorian examples, and definitely not reproductions.
They are nicely modelled examples and are a properly matched pair, as created.
Each dog has a little gold-coloured collar with a padlock on it - the padlock and chain on each dog have some rubbing and losses to the gilding - but this is common in these old Victorian examples. There is a lot of the original gold gilding left on the dog's fur. They have painted yellow eyes - as issued - and I love the big curly tails on these ones.
They are fine display pieces - and will look fabulous on a mantlepiece or old-fashioned kitchen dresser. They are generally in good antique condition. There is a little firing crack where the moulds meet along the head of one dog and a wee scuffing of the glaze on one at the back (all as photographed). These are commensurate with age - and are there, but not seen on display. This is reflected in my lower asking price for this fine large pair.
