This is a very attractive piece of vintage Danish Royal Copenhagen pottery. It is a great piece for display in a Scandinavian-inspired mid-century interior.
It is a lovely large shallow dish designed by Kari Christensen (1938 – 1997) and is part of the Tenera range (Pattern No. 144-2885). The design features lots of little birds perched in foliage with a large sunflower type of flower in the center. It has the Royal Copenhagen back stamp and the artist's initials on the reverse, as photographed.
Christensen was a leading Norwegian ceramic artist She studied at the National College of Art and Design, Oslo between 1956 and 1961. Between 1961 and 1965 she was employed as a designer at the Alumina factory (Royal Copenhagen) where she was one of a group of six young designers who worked on the Tenera range developed by the then art director Nils Thorsson.
In 1967 she set up her own studio in Oslo. She was also a visiting lecturer at the National College of Art and Design.
It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. I have taken lots of images for your inspection. It comes with its original white card retail box - this is a little tatty - but the plate is just perfect!
