This is a stylish piece of early 1960s Whitefriars Glass that was designed by the glass maestro Geoffrey Baxter in 1963. It is design number 9698.
My vase is an ovoid shape. It has a rounded rim a the top and also has subtle ribbing in the main body section - this ribbing in the glass is called "optic". It is a rich Ruby red colour - and is case in a layer of clear glass - as you can see on the foot. It is hand-blown and has a polished pontil mark on the base, as photographed.
This vase was first illustrated in the 1964 Whitefriars Catalogue. It is certainly very minimalistic and modern in style - and shows Baxter's interest in Scandinavian glass. It would look fabulous in a Scandi-modern interior.
This one is 5 1/2 inches in height and is 4 1/2 inches in diameter at the widest point. It is made of thick glass and has a bit of weight to it - which might make postage a little more expensive.
It is in excellent vintage condition with no damages.
It is a great addition to your Mid-Century glass collection. It is listed at a very fair price for an early 60s piece of Whitefriars Glass.
UK Postage will be with Royal Mail Recorded (medium parcel). This will be capped at £6.95 and applied to your order at the checkout. If I can post the vase for less than this - I will be happy to refund any overpayments.
