This is one of a small selection of unused vintage tea towels or bar cloths that I have owned for a number of years. They were all packed away in a wee box - so have just decided to add to my shop stock.
This one is made from heavy weave Scottish Linen as annotated.
It was made at Lockhart Linen in Kircaldy. The linen industry used to be a mainstay in this Scottish town - sadly the Lockhart Mill is no longer in production on the site. These vintage tea towels are a record of the decline in the Scottish Textile manufacturing industry.
It is in pristine condition - and a great decorative textile which could be framed and possibly displayed on a wall. Or just as a fun vintage kitchen item. The images are certainly quirky ones - and very much of their time.
The colours are rich and bright. The cloth features is not only interesting with its historic links to the linen trade in Kirkcaldy - but also features a host of popular Scottish recipes that you could make at home. A rare survivor and in such fine condition.
Dimensions: 77 x 52 cm (30 1/4 x 20 1/2 inches).
Postage on all my towels is FREE.
These have been priced to reflect the rarity of each item and the interest subject matter. Many of these have been ruined through use of the years,, or shabby condition - or long gone out in the bin!
