This is another attractive art glass paperweight in my store.
It dates to 1990 and takes the form of a paperweight. It has its original sticker and has an etched signature to the base, as photographed.
It is a lovely contemporary paperweight and was made by James Wilbat. It is signed and dated 1992 on the base.
James Wilbat is one of the United State's finest contemporary glass artists. He studied art at Illinois State University where he received a BS in Fine Arts in 1977. Though he had concentrated on ceramics in undergraduate school, he was introduced to glass blowing his senior year. He continued his studies at the University of Kansas, where he focused on learning the ancient art of glass blowing, and in 1980 he received a Master of Fine Art degree in Design.
Wilbat's glass is distinguished by his fusion of abstract design and playful use of color. By merging ancient glassblowing techniques with his modern eye for design, Wilbat creates glass that unites tradition and innovation. His color and composition are highly influenced by his love for Abstract Expressionist painting.
It is in excellent damage-free condition
It is an attractive Shard paperweight that is covered with abstract shapes and patterns. Wilbat also made large flat bowls using this green and pink design. My asking price here is for one of his larger size magnum weights.
The weight takes the shape of a ball measuring 3 1/2 inches in height - and a stonking 4 inches in diameter.
Unpacked it is 1.2 kg in weight.
It will cost £4.95 to post to UK addresses and this will be applied at check-out. It is not so common to find his weights for sale in the UK.
