This is a lovely vintage early 1960s powder compact.
It has a dark red enameled lid - the gold tones on the lid show images of some best-loved tourist sites in London.
The places featured are the Royal Festival Theatre, the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, the Eros Statue at Picadilly Circus, St Paul's Cathedral, and along the bottom is Buckingham Palace.
Dimensions: The diameter is 8 cm (just over 3 inches).
It is in good vintage condition. The enamel on the lid is shiny and without scratches. The base has engine-turned engraving - which is also without issue. Inside, the mirror is clean and generally with no spotting. There is a metal lid to cover the powder compartment. The original sifter mesh is present. The top of the inner metal powder cover is marked: Kigu.
A very pretty vintage compact if you live in or love London.
It would probably not take a pressed cake of powder - it would have been originally designed to hold loose powder - for a quick powder to your nose when you were out on the town.
I have another variant of the compact on my website - this is slightly lighter in construction but has the same pattern on the lid - but with a cream-coloured enamel on the lid.
