This is a nice little cake lift or shovel. It is made of solid silver and is hallmarked.
The design is a Celtic Revival one called Lindisfarne. It was inspired by decoration from the Anglo-Saxon Lindisfarne Gospels. Spoons were also issued in this pattern. The design was first introduced in 1938. Production was interrupted by the outbreak of war the following year and the pattern was not reintroduced until the late 1950s. This one dates to 1968.
It is hallmarked in Sheffield with the date and maker's name on the back, as photographed.
