I love this old woven wool Navajo Yei Figural Rug - it is a most attractive one.
It is the larger of two that I have in my online store.
It dates to the middle of the 20th century - and remains in lovely clean condition. I think that it dates to the 1940s or 1950s - but am welcome to further suggestions if this is not correct.
I have owned it a number of years and it has been carefully packed away to keep it clean.
It has no damages and certainly no issues with moths etc.
It could be used as a floor covering - but would look better as a wall hanging - it is just so decorative.
It is made of thick wool and is un-fringed - the bottom edge is finished off with a blanket stitch of blue wool - which is only obvious on the reverse of the textile. The front has no evidence of the blue blanket stitching. This is the only way of telling what side is what - as the image is near identical on each side - which is a good sign of this being a genuine vintage Navajo textile.
There are tiny tassels at each corner ... as photographed.
I am not 100% certain of what is being depicted on the textile - I think that it shows four people who are involved in spinning and growing linen or cotton plants (the central abstract image). The hold distaffs for spinning the yarn into thread for weaving. At first, I thought they might depict warriors or people fishing with all the arrow and long spear shapes - but I think that this is perhaps more of a record of a "home industry" which would be more appropriate for a wall hanging or thick blanket.
Generally in nice clean condition, and I have taken lots of images for your inspection - from a distance and closer up so that you can make a full assessment of this fine piece. I am a little out of my comfort zone with Navajo textiles - but it looks a good quality item to me. I am sure experts will be able to assess it fully from all the images (which can be magnified) on my listing.
It is a lovely size for display in a more domestic interior: the measures 75 x 120 cm (29 1/2 x 47 1/4 inches).
UK posting only. I would be sending it to you with Parcelforce48. This will cost £10 with insurance and tracking. It would be sent in a sturdy box to you to avoid any damage or tears in transit.
