This is a stunning large 1930s Crown Ducal Green Dragon or Manchu Charger.
This pattern was designed by Frederick / Charlotte Rhead and was first shown at the British Industries Fair in 1936. There is a faint signature for him on the base, as photographed.
Excellent Condition, no chips or cracks. Diameter: 32 cm (12 1/2 inches).
A fantastic piece of British Art Deco ceramic ware from the 1930s, and an impressive large size for hanging on a wall in a period interior.
The Manchu or Green Dragon pattern is No .4511 and was made for the Crown Ducal factory. It has the Rhead F tube-lined signature on the base - and also the Crown Ducal factory mark.
The plate is decorated with a fanciful pattern that depicts the undulating form of a large green dragon. I love how all his scales are picked up with the tube lines, and applied to pick up details. There are further decorative Oriental Motifs around the edge.
My large plate is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks etc.
As you can see from my photographs a fine example and will look great in a deco study or sitting room.
