
This is a lovely piece of 1960s glass. It was designed by Frantisek Zemek (1913 - 1960).
SHORT BIOGRAPHY: From 1928 - 1938, Zemek worked as a cutter at Dobronin Glassworks. and then until 1940 at the glass school at Zelezny Brod. Further studies followed at the Academy of Applied Art in Prague (1940 - 1948). He worked as a glass engraver at Kemenicky Senov in 1946 and as a glassmaker at Chribska in 1949. He served as head designer at Mstisov from 1956 - 59, and produced designs for Moser from 1959 - 1960. (Thanks to Mark Hill for the biographical information).
This heavy Czech glass vase is from the Rhapsody range and dates to the late 1950s / early 1960s. This is an innovative piece of glass was made at the Mstisov glassworks and was worked by Zemek hot at the furnace. The Rhapsody items notably feature subtle multi-coloured prunts or swirling / undulating ridges moulded into the body of the glass. These Rhapsody pieces are now highly sought after. Similar items are shown in the book "Hi Sklo Lo Sklo" by Mark Hill, pages 66 and 67.
Mstisov became part of the Borske Sklo National Corporation in 1958.
Dimensions: It is a large vase measuring 10 inches in height and it is 5 inches at the widest point. The depth is 3 inches. It is 1.7 kg in weight unpacked. It is in perfect condition with no damages. It is listed at a very fair price and is a larger sized example of a Rhapsody vase.
