This is a lovely vintage set of six little plates.
They are marked on the reverse NHS and five with the date 1978 and one is 1979.
The AM initials on the base probably refer to the ceramic body of each plate being made by Alfred Meakin pottery. They were often produced in large quanities for general use in NHS hospitals - but the application of the humourous transfer decorations made them attractive to little children.
They are all the same size and with similar comical nursery designs.
It seems that these were made in the 1970s for children who were in hospital and were to make the food and eating more appealing. The would have been used on the children's wards.
Each design features an illustration to well-known nursery rhymes. The are really all quite sweet. I am listing each little plate at £12.50
