This is a very rare survivor. It is a fabulous Art Nouveau glass hanging light shade - and dates to around the 1920s.
The shade takes the form of a fancy globe or ball. The decoration has been transferred print on the exterior of the shade - and is in perfect condition with no scratches to the decoration and no chips or cracks to the glass itself.
The jugendstil design on the shade is just lovely. It has been rewired for UK electric supplies - it originally had an old Continental fitment when I acquired it - this would suggest it had a North European (French, Dutch, Belgian) origin.
The light comes with its original brass gallery holder. This screws onto the glass rim of the shade to hold it in place and makes it easy for you to remove the shade if you need to change the bulb.
The hanging light shade also comes with its original ceiling rose. As mentioned, it has been rewired and now has a new antique-style 3-core corded cable - it is wound in and out along the old brass hanging chain. The lamp is also earthed for safety.
It is not signed with any maker's name. I cannot find another hanging shade quite like it - so if you like it, don't hang about - when it is gone..
Dimensions: The height from the ceiling rose to the bottom of the glass shade is 18 1/2 inches. The length of the shade including the brass gallery is 10 1/2 inches. The diameter of the shade at the widest point is 8 inches. The brass ceiling rose has a diameter of 4 1/4 inches. The diameter of the gallery is four inches.
I love the warm colours applied to the glass - this will certainly make a room feel nice and cosy. The abstract floral decoration is also just lovely. This will be a bit of a showstopper in a period interior - you won't find another like it easily!
