This is one of a selection of vintage Scottish paperweights which I am listing in my shop - all with fair prices attached to them.
The one was made by Selkirk Glass in the Scottish Borders. It has an etched inscription as photographed - and is inscribed with the date 1988.
Selkirk Glass was set up by Peter Holmes and Ron Hutchison in 1977. Peter Holmes left in 2002. The company sadly closed in 2006 - so these beautiful weights are no longer being made.
This 1988 weight is an early one - made only a few years after the company was founded.
It has a height of 3 inches and a diameter of just over 3 1/4 inches.
It is a very pretty weight - with a floor of sparkly gold covered in tiny controlled air bubbles. Around the edge of the base section there are little applied chunks of spiky pink and dark blue glass. The centre of the weight is mainly clear - and near to the crown there is an abstract blue flower with four petals. There is a little swirl on the middle of the flower and a large airbubble. There are tiny controlled air bubble above the flower head - and also at the tip of each petal near to the base. A more minimalist design - but of a large magnum size. The larger size of this weight is reflected in the price attached to this one.
It has an engraved inscription on the base: Selkirk Glass Scotland 1988
It is in good vintage condition with no chips or cracks.
