This is a stylish 1980s Norwegian lithograph. It would look great in a Scandi-modern interior. It is always nice to get original Norwegian artworks to hang in your room.
The artwork is an orginal lithograph signed, titled and dated by the artist on the bottom margin, as photographed. It shows an extensive landscape at Sommerkveld, Asken. It dates to 1988. I love the simple composition looking out over the small freshwater lake at sunset. The sun is just going down and the sky is being lit up with a rose pink light.
The print is in good condition - it is in its original frame with old clippings relating to the artist on the reverse. It might benefit from being reframed - or getting a new backing board for the frame - but it is fine for you to just hang on your wall.
Dimensions: The frame is 38 x 46 cm. The image is 23.5 x 32 cm.
It will be sent to you with Parcelforce24. This will be applied to your order at the checkout.
BIOGRAPHY: Egil Egebakken was born in Egersund, Norway on 18 January 1943. He first studied natural sciences at the University of Oslo. He then worked as schoolteacher until the 1970s, when he changed the direction of his career from science to art.
He was a pupil of Herman Bendixen at the Asker Malerskole painting school 1970–73. Egebakken was best known for his paintings of the Norwegian landscape with a focus on capturing shifting light and a tranquil atmosphere. His regional compositions are often void of human figures to preserve focus on the natural Norwegian scenery.
His works often capture the flat terrains found around coastal areas This colour lithograph features on expansive view evoling a sense of serene isolation and the relentless rhythm of sea and sky. Subtle shifts in light and form are inherent features in Scandinavian nature.
Egebakken primarily worked with oil on canvas for his paintings, capturing expansive landscapes with a focus on natural elements. He also extensively employed color lithography as a key medium, producing limited-edition prints. Over his career, Egebakken adapted his processes by transitioning toward printmaking alongside painting, particularly in the 1980s and 1990s, to facilitate wider distribution through editioned lithographs that could reach more diverse audiences via sale through galleries and public installations.
He exhibited at a number of exhibitions around Norway. He died in 2024, aged 81.
