These pairs of Staffordshire Standing Roosters are highly collectable.
On offer is a true matching pair which date to around 1880.
They are in good antique condition, as can be seen in my photographs.
More photographs can be supplied for serious interest only.
The pair are fine display pieces for a cottage interior and would look fantastic on an old pine kitchen dresser.
Each figure is white in colour - sadly most of the original gilding is almost entirely rubbed away - which is a common occurrence.
There is raised modelling to the front - and the back is flat with vent holes nearly halfway up on the reverse. The base is fully sealed with no air vents.
Condition: the left-hand figure of the pair is in better condition with no major issues apart from the loss of the gilding to the feathers. The paintwork to the head is original and without losses. The figure has no chips, cracks or losses of any kind. There is a faint craquelure all over - which is commensurate with age and to be expected on a genuine piece of this age. This is clean and only noticeable on close up inspection. A most lovely example.
The right-hand figure has a few issues but displays well. Let me describe the condition. Again, the paintwork to the head is original and without losses. There is a large fine, and very shallow (more of a scratch really) hairline crack to the tail feathers - this is an old issue and of course stable - it could probably be lightened to that it might not be seen easily. I have photographed this in extreme close up and it certainly looks much more pronounced in my image than in real-life.
There is also an old shallow chip to the bottom of the base corner at the right-hand side - again, you cant see this when the rooster is on display. Air vent to the back to match my other rooster - and sealed base. Matching craquelure to the model - but apart from issues described above - it remains a fine display pair of rare flatbacks.
Nice large size: Each is about 12 inches in height from base to top of cock comb. Width at the widest point of the base is 9 1/2 inches - and from rooster chest to back of tail feathers is about 9 inches. Depth of the base is about 4 3/4 inches.
Sadly due to weight, the birds would have to be limited to UK posting only.
Postage quote here is to post each bird separately (to enable very careful packing) using Royal Mail Next Day Special Delivery.
