This is a beautiful Scottish Victorian brooch dating to around the 1880s.
It is a fine antique example and comes in an old Scottish red leather box (1930s or 1940s) with gold gilt decoration - the box is probably worth over £25 on its own!
The brooch is a round shape with amber faceted Cairngorm in the center.
The halo surrounding the central polished stone contains a collection of inlaid Scottish agates and Montrose agates - these are all shiny, polished and in good condition, fully intact and with no damages.
The whole of the back is covered in a layer of this sterling silver - as you find on antique Scottish pieces.
The pin is as you would find on antique Scottish jewellery - with a simple c-curl clasp. The brooch also has a little closed hook section on the top at the back - with an attached silver safety chain to pin on your clothing - so that it was going to be double secure.
This is a pretty Victorian Scottish brooch: it has a diameter of 3.2 cm (1 1/4 inches) - so very pretty for a cap, beret, or lapel.
I have taken close-up photographs - so please examine these closely to check the condition.
It is unmarked with a hallmark - which is not to worry about, as many of these old Scottish pieces are not given a hallmark etc - the backing and settings for the stones are silver - and sold as such.
It is nice and clean. It is a nice and very attractive example.
As mentioned comes with an old Scottish box - which is also in lovely condition.
The exterior of the box is covered in a claret-coloured leather - with a gold gilt pattern.
It is hinged - and with a tiny brass press stud on the front. Inside, the base is covered in dark red velvet (nice and clean) and the lid is in cream-coloured silk - and with the name R.L Christie, Bank Street, Edinburgh (just off the Royal Mile). Sadly, the shop is no longer there.
So pricing this at £120 for the brooch and £25 for the lovely antique box.
