This is a very beautiful Zardosi embroidered bag. It is in the most beautiful condition and I dont think that it has ever been used.
Zardozi embroidery work involves making elaborate designs, using gold and silver threads and it originates in India.
This bag dates to the middle of the 20th century (probably 1940s or early 1950s). The main body of the bag is made of a black velvet and the lining is black satin. It has two large open pockets on each side - and its original make-up mirror.
It is more of a clutch bag - but has a short handle made of a woven gold toned thread.
The thing that is special about this bag is the beautiful and intricate embroidery on both sides. The central panel is diamond shaped infilled with more diamonds and then embroidered with floral decorations - these are all picked out with raised gold thread - the back has rays of silver threads - and all around the edges there are more floral designs - so finely picked out with silver thread.
Being embroidered on both sides makes it quite a special bag.
The bag opens with one side flap being raised up. The closure on the bag is a press stud.
The interior is totally clean with no signs of it ever having being used. The metallic threads used are bright with a good gleam to them and no signs of tarnish or discolouration.
Dimensions: The height of the body section is 5 inches. The width is 8 and the height with the little handle is 7 3/4 inches.
Listed at a fair price taking into consideration the double sided intricate design and its totally pristine condition. You probably won't find another one like it.
