This is a beautiful Scottish Victorian brooch dating to around the 1880s.
It is a fine antique example. The brooch is a round shape with a central black area - rather like you might find on a doughnut.
The circular halo band is made of a selection of slices of Scottish polished stones of coloured agates, Montrose agates etc.
The agates are all shiny, polished and in good condition with no scratches, cracks or chippings.
The whole back is covered in a thick layer of Scottish silver, with a handmade and very sturdy handmade pin which has a good heavy-duty hinge, as photographed.
The pin is as you would expect to find on antique Scottish jewellery - with a simple c-curl clasp.
This is a pretty larger Victorian Scottish brooch: it has a diameter of 4.8 cm (just under 2 inches) - so a great halo brooch or pin for a cloak, scarf or a sweater.
I have taken close up photographs - so please examine these closely to check the condition.
It is unmarked with a hallmark - which is not to worry about, as many of these old Scottish pieces are not given a hallmark etc - the backing and settings for the stones are silver - and sold as such.
It is nice and clean with its original patina to the old silver. If you would like me to polish it for you - just let me know and I would be happy to clean the silver with proprietory silver polish.
It will be sent in a simple gift box to keep it safe in your jewellery box.
