This is a first edition published in 1947.
It is hardback (lacking its original dustjacket) - and full of wonderful Pictish / Celtic decorations and designs by the artist George Bain (1881 - 1968).
Bain was an artist and educator whose Celtic art instruction manuals have inspired countless artists and craftspeople since they were first published in 1945. He was captivated by intricate Pictish stones, early medieval illuminated manuscripts, and ornate metalwork from Britain and Ireland.
His meticulous drawings and designs created a modern method of construction through which ancient Celtic prototypes could be drawn in a series of simple steps.
This volume features a selection of poems compiled by Douglas Young.
The book is a slim volume of 56 pages. Dimensions: 25 x 16 x 1 cm.
A nice enough copy of this harder-to-find volume - it has a plain pale blue-grey cloth cover as photographed. There is a little time toning to the fly-leaf front and back: but otherwise nice and clean with all the illustrations and pages present. Minimal bumping of the corners. The spine is intact.
Free UK Postage. Please also see my fine original etching by Bain which is available in my store.
