This is a stunning antique Glasgow School brass wall charger or plaque.
It is made of brass with the most exquisite and delicate repousse decoration.
The central field is decorated with a Celtic Motif and around the edge are natural forms which form an abstracted border. To me, the fruits depicted look like Persimmons. and they are interspersed between heart shapes.
The charger is in excellent condition with no damages - it retains its original hanging fittings on the reverse and is all ready to just hang on your wall.
It is a nice large item - with a diameter of 19 1/4 inches (49cm)
This is a very unusual design and also one which is so beautifully rendered - with a nice wired edge to give it strength and rigidity - and is a sign of quality.
The design of this particular charger is very reminiscent of one made at the Gilmour Studios in Glasgow. Not all of her work is signed - occasionally a small MG stamp would be reduced - but a lot of works were not.
This charger compares very well with pieces Attributed to Margaret Gilmour going through specialist decorative arts sales at national auction houses such as Bonhams and Christies.
