This is a really fabulous vintage West German Clock dating to the early 1970s.
It is a glorious bright canary yellow colour and it is much more vibrant a shade than suggested in my photographs.
It is in a completely pristine condition and has been packed away since 1971.
It is easy for me to date this eye-catching clock as it is still in its original brown card retail box – and this contains the original guarantee when the clock was first purchased.
The clock was purchased from Hamilton’s of Hull on 24 December 1971, Christmas Eve. So it was probably a Christmas gift – perhaps the person who was given it didn’t like it – as it has been packed away for over 50 years and never used. The original printed instructions are also in the box.
I have wound it up – it has a wind-up mechanism and is not battery operated. It is working well and keeps good time.
Obviously, despite being over 50 years old – it is such pristine, as new condition, and there is not a single condition issue with it.
It is a large size – measuring some 8 ½ inches in diameter.
The clock was made in West German – and has the words Presta Pumpkin on the face and on the back, it is impressed twice West Germany.
The clock’s main body section is made of hard plastic, the face is covered with glass. On the top at a pair of large bells. These are decorative in nature – and do not function as the alarm – the clock alarm noise comes from inside the mechanism inside the main body of the clock. The control panel at the back is made of gold-coloured metal. There are two gold-coloured peg feet on the base.
There is a thin gold metal carrying handle on the top.
I especially love the curly numbers on the face – they are very early 70s in style. There is a red second hand and a wee hand for setting the alarm. The clock gives off a nice ticking sound.
It is certainly a most eye-catching design, large size and colour – and it will look fantastic in a period late 20th Century interior, especially in this stunning bright yellow colour.
It can be placed on a bedside cabinet – but also would be suitable for a kitchen, living room or office. On the back of the clock, there is also a hole so that you could mount or hang it on a wall if you wished to.
You certainly won't find a better example than this one. No conditions with it at all – as good as the day it was made. The relative rarity of this large size and the unusual colour is reflected in my asking price.
