This is a very rare complete set of six plates. They are all in the original packaging. The set is called the Kalkulium Suite and was designed by the Scottish artist Eduardo Paolozzi (1924 - 2005) for Wedgwood.
The set was issued in a limited edition of 500 plates. This one is number 92. They were issed as this boxed set in 1987.
The design on each plate was transfer printed onto fine bone china. Each plate is contained within its original grey storage box and these are all carefully placed and stacked inside an outer custom box. The set comes with its original certificate.
The designs are all typical of Palozzi's interest in futuristic design and the patterns here are reminiscent of computer circuit boards. The designs illustrate the start of the growth in information technology.
The reverse of each plate is marked: 'Kalkulium Suite in a limited edition of 500 sets of six plates by Eduardo Paolozzi', with a copy of his signature following in plate [All printed in black], with 'Wedgwood Bone China Made in England' [Printed in gold] added below, as photographed.
These plates are of museum quality. Another complete set is in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
