This is a very fine decorative glass relief plaque made by Monica Backstrom for Kosta Boda in 2002.
It comes from her Frozen Images Series - and has an etched signature and date in the bottom right-hand corner. The series consisted of six plaques that featured details of frozen Swedish landscapes. This one shows a silver moon in an ice-covered landscape - the silver leaf disk shape is indented and is very tactile.
Monica Backström (1939–2020) was one of Sweden’s leading glass artists in the 20th and 21st centuries. After studying at the ”Konstfack” in Stockholm, she worked for the Kosta Boda glassworks for more than 40 years. Her work is in the Swedish National Museum of Art and Design.
This plaque is about 8 1/2 inches square - with the depth of the wooden frame measuring 2 1/4 inches.
It comes from my own personal collection - and I actually bought it from new from the Kosta Boda Kiosk at the prestigious Jenners Department Store on Princes Street in Edinburgh. It is in good vintage condition with no damages.
It is a great piece for a more minimalistic Scandinavian interior.
It is quite a heavy piece and will cost £12 to post with you at Parcelforce24 - this will be applied to your order at the checkout.
