This is a very fine Maria Helena Doll - she is a very large one being about 14 inches in height.
She retains her original paper label which says she was Made in Portugal and is a Maria Helena creation.
She dates to the 1950s - and is typical of these vintage costume dolls.
My lady has a simple stocking-ette face with embroidered features - and brown woolly hair which peeps out from underneath her headdress.
The thing which is most impressive about this big doll is all the attention to detail which has gone into the making of the costume.
She wears a long-sleeved white undershirt - and on top of this has an embroidered red felt waistcoat. Her skirt is amazing - with a full red felt long grindle type skirt - this is all embroidered with abstract patterns in greens and blues. On top is a very decorative apron - all embroidered all over with green and pink flowers in a white gird pattern. There are little silver sequins all over.
She has little embroidered black vinyl shoes.
If you lift up her dress - you will see that the attention to detail continues below: she has a stiff cotton underskirt edged with cotton lace and below that cotton pantaloons - again edged with lace. She wears white felt stockings.
As you can see from my photographs, she is lovely and clean and in fantastic condition for her age - now being nearly 70 years old.
No damages or grubbiness. A most beautiful example of a vintage Maria Helena doll - listed at a fair price given all the work gone into making her costume and her larger size.
