This is a lovely vintage piece of mid-century Scandinavian ceramics.
The pattern is very abstract and organic and features an image of an apple that has been cut in half.
The pattern is called Blue Fructus and it was made by Arabia Pottery, Helsinki in Finland.
It is very substantial with a good weight to it and has a diameter of 13 inches.
The blue-purple version of this design is more attractive and sought after than the brown version. This is reflected in my asking price.
Works from the Arabia Factory which had been located on the outskirts of Helsinki are continuing to rise at the moment. This plate comes from my own collection and had been hanging at home for many years - I am currently undertaking some refurbishment works at home - so hence a reluctant sale of a few things I have owned for many years.
I am very keen on Arabia items - and indeed have been lucky to visit the Arabia Museum in Helsinki - that was a day of joy!
This big chop plate or serving platter, I had on special display at home It has a large disc hanger on the back - this obscures the signature stamps., etc on the back - but rest assured they are present. I have left this on - so that you can hang it on your wall - as these large disc hangers are now getting to be quite expensive - I can easily remove it for you if you wish.
The platter was designed by Finnish ceramist Gunvor Olin-Grönqvist, whose works feature in museums and galleries across Scandinavia. It was made at the Arabia pottery between 1960 and 1975. Underneath the hanging disc, the plate is marked with the designer's initials: GOG, and the initials of the painter of the design on the front.
My plate is in excellent vintage condition - with no chips or cracks. It has always been on display with me - and never used as a dining or functional item. There are no cutlery marks on the surface and it is very shiny.
Sadly, due to the weight and size - I would have to send this to you with Parcelforce24 tracked postage. This would be applied to your order at the checkout and cost £10.
