This is a fine antique Glasgow School / Arts and Crafts brass wall charger or plaque.
It is made of brass with the most exquisite and delicate reverse punched repousse decoration.
The central field is highly polished to a near mirror finish with no decoration (no dents etc, any ripples in my photos are caused by reflections rather than being on the metal). Around the edge are natural forms that form an abstracted border. There are four repousee roundels and a between each one is a decorative pattern of angular knotwork. The metal is nice and bright with no dents or scratches. It is clean and ready for you to just hang on your wall.
The charger is in excellent condition with no damages - it retains its original hanging fittings on the reverse and is all ready to just hang on your wall.
It is a nice size for domestic display with a diameter of just under 13 1/2 inches (34 cm), The inner dish section is 7 1/2 inches (19 cm).
This is a very attractive design and also one which is skillfully rendered - with a nice wired edge to give it strength and rigidity - and is a sign of quality.
As with many of these Glasgow School brass chargers - there is no signature or maker's mark assigned to this one. Although the style and quality of the decoration suggests Margaret Gilmour or her circle as the maker.
I have taken lots of photographs for your inspection.
