This is a fine large perfume bottle with the base taking the form of a paperweight. It probably dates to the 1980s and made for the Caithness Collectors Club. I also have listed a paperweight with the same decoration and floral inclusions in the base.
This is a Caithness / Whitefriars release. Whitefriars initially operated under the name of James Powell & Sons from 1834 - 1962, when it was renamed Whitefriars Glass. Sadly, in 1980 the company went out of business. When Whitefriars was liquidated, Caithness purchased the rights to the name and produced paperweights and similar items under the Whitefriars name for a short period.
The weight has a little signature blue Butterfly / or Monks cane on the green ground. It has very dark green coloured ground. The base is deeply faceted and each finger facet runs up the side to meet the line of the green base colour. The floral arrangement inside consists of two red clementis flowers with yellow centers and another bloom is still in bud. There are lots of vivid green leaves. The lampwork used in the creation of the flowers is certainly very skillful. There are also egg-shaped polished facets (eight in total) around the shoulders of the bottle. The top flares out form a large thick flat neck. I love that the little stopper - also follows the same design. The stopper has a single red flower, facets around the sides and a polished viewing facets on the top. The neck of the stopper is sand-blasted and fits snuggly into the neck.
As previously mentioned - both my bottle and paperweight do not have a CG cane - so I am suspecting that they were made by Caithness / Whitefriars just after the transition period and that it is actually Scottish in origin. One of the facets on the base is numbered 37 / 50. This is the same on my paperweight.
Both items are in lovely vintage condition with no damages. I am listing them as separate items. I have taken lots of images for your inspection - it was a little difficult for me to photograph with all the facets and reflections from them - but hope I have done a good job.
The bottle with its stopper is 5 1/4 inches in height. From the base to the neck of the bottle is 4 inches. The diameter of the weight / base section is 3 1/4 inches. The length of the stopper overall is 2 1/2 inches. The rim of the bottle is just under 2 1/2 inches.
