This is an amazing 1960s unique art pottery Swedish Vase.
It is a large size and it is most certainly a showstopper when on display. It was made at Tilgmans Keramik (Sweden). It is signed on the base and with the artist's monogram.
Tilgmans Keramik was a pottery just outside of Gothenburg. It operated from 1948-1975. In its heyday, it employed about 80 people. The pottery was started by Paul Harald Tilgmann (1904-1974).
The pottery was very popular in the 1950s when it was managed by its artistic director, Marian Zawadzki (1912-1978). Zawadzki was a Polish refugee and started work at Tilgmans in 1953. He developed a technique using a sophisticated sgrafitto decoration. This involved carving fine lines into the dark textured background. The designs were then hand-painted with coloured overglazes. Common themes featured birds, fish, flowers and butterflies.
The Pottery closed after Tilgmann's death in 1974.
Dimensions: 14 3/4 inches. At the widest point it is 8 inches. It is a slimmer shape with a depth of 4 3/4 inches. It is a bit of a beast and unpacked it weighs nearly 3.2 kg.
This vase is a particularly large and highly decorative one (the design is different on each side) - this is reflected in my asking priece.
Sadly, due to the size and weight of the vase - I would be unable to send this outside of the UK. Postage in the UK will be with Parcelforce24 and this will be applied to your order at the checktout.
