This is another fine maritime etching and drypoint in our store.
It shows a busy working fishing harbour - the boats are moored and tied up in the harbour - and on the quayside, fishermen are seen in the distance moving about and finishing up for the day.
The print is signed: WP Vannet.
The artist is William Peters Vannet, MBE, FRSA (1917 - 1984).
He was born in Carnoustie, Angus. He studied at Dundee College of Art where his teachers included James McIntosh Patrick. There are clear signs of McIntosh Patrick's influence in this work, especially the application and concentration on all the minute details of a scene so that hardly any part of the paper is untouched. This etching by Vannet is totally delightful.
He excelled at these harbour scenes - and this is a typical view of one of his favourite Scottish harbours. It dates to around the 1960s and he exhibited other similar subjects in the early 60s at the Royal Scottish Academy and Glasgow Institute.
Frame size: 32 x 37 cm. The image size is 17 x 25 cm.
Works by Vannet sell for double my price listed here in Dundee.
I have had the etching professionally re-framed and re-mounted with archival standard window mounts and a simple new wooden frame before offering for sale - so this impression is lovely and clean with no condition issues. It is ready for you to just hang on your wall.
