These are a collectable and much sought-after pair of fine porcelain candlesticks.
They were made by Rosenthal for Versace and each candlestick has a gold mask of the Medusa on them on opposing sides of each stick. The design is called Medusa (one look at her head and you would turn to stone) - as annotated on the base, as photographed. There is also an inspection sticker on the base showing that these ones passed the examination in the factory to guarantee quality.
The candlesticks are coloured with russet, blue and gold colours on the white porcelain base. They are profusely decoration with acanthus patterns and decorative scrolls. I love the little playful putti on the base section of each candlestick - forming a contrast to the sinsiter Medusa masks on the stem section. They are fabulous pieces and would be feature pieces in a more flamboyant modernist interior.
They are 8 1/4 inches in height. The base is 3 1/4 square. The diameter of the sconce section is 1 3/4 inches. The internal diameter of the sconce is 3/4 inch.
They are both in perfect condition with no damages. The ones in my photographs are the ones that will be sent to you.
