ctThis is an attractive early 1960s sweets tin which was retailed by Edward Sharp & Sons, Kent.
It is shallow oblong in format - so would make a splendid box for storing little personal objects in like tickets, pencils, money, etc
The tin is 6 1/2 inches x 4 3/4 inches - and with a depth of just over one inch.
As you can see in my photographs, it is decorated with images of lots of little couples shown in silhouette. The are shown against a abstract geometric background - with shapes in red, sky blue, french blue, white and black. They are in love and lots of little black and white love hearts are applied to the design. There are also trees and some items of street furniture depicted. This image is on the lid only. The rest of the outside of the tin has a dark sky blue enamel colour. The lid is hinged at the top and it fits tightly. The hinges have no issues.
It has an impressed inscription by the maker on the base: Made in England by / Edward Sharp & Sons Ltd / of Maidstone, Kent.
The tin is in nice clean condition. There are a few tiny, fine scuffs here and there... commensurate with age. But nothing to disturb the design. There are no nasty dents or damages.
Some of the shiny on the tin has little areas of spotting or oxidisation as is natural on a tin of this age. This is confined mainly to the interior of the lid - the inside base section still has a nice shine to it.
This is a rarer design - and it would have probably have been a Christmas gift - when your auntie would give you a presentation tin of sweets in such a fancy tin. My asking price reflects the nice condition and the rarity and attractiveness of the design.
