This is a rare head scarf dating to the 1950s.
It is a fine textile scarf made to celebrate the 1956 Olympics which were held in Melbourne, Australia.
It is a nice large size measuring 62 x 63 cms.
It is in fine vintage condition - the material is very sheer - and not sure what it is made from as there is no materials tag attached, but think that it might be silk or very fine rayon. As such it is very delicate in nature - and not many of these have survived.
I have taken lots of photographs so that you can assess its condition. It is generally without out issues - but there are a couple of tiny (but stable) holes to the material, as shown in my last image. This would not be noticeable with a white background and framed for display. It is the only flaw on this item - and reflected in my asking price.
The image shows a map of Australia with the Olympic Torch superimposed on it. The whole central motif is surrounded by a laurel wreath signifying victory.
It will look better with a press with a very cool iron - and would do this for you before posting.
A rare piece of Olympic history - and listed at a very fair price to take into account both its relative rarity and condition.
