This is a rare and extremely attractive coffee set in the Valencia (Green) pattern. The set shape was designed by Ragnar Grimsrud (1902 – 1988), one of Norway’s most gifted ceramists; the decoration was by Rolf Froyland.
This beautiful Norwegian set is a special collector's item - and was only in production from 1960 - 1963. It is always keenly sought after when it comes onto the market.
The design is printed onto the surface of the ceramic – and all the tiny details have been hand-painted.
I also have another Grimsrud teaset for Figgjo Flint listed on my site. The tea set is in the simpler Crocus pattern - and is a lesser price than this one.
The set is priced up as follows: the Coffee Pot is £90 (particularly rare!); the Sugar Bowl is £20; and the milk jug is free (as has a little restored chip). Each cup and saucer (there are 5 in perfect condition) £20. There is one cup with a restored outer chip near the rim and another was an imperfection to the saucer. I have photographed this in close-up for your inspection (the very last image in my sequence). These items will not be charged for – and for display purposes, you have a complete set for six.
The total for all pieces as annotated above is £215. This is fair given the lovely condition of most of the set – and its rarity. It will probably be not so hard to find a replacement jug and cup / saucer.
Dimensions: The coffee pot is 9 1/2 inches in height including the knop on the lid. From handle to spout is 8 inches. The cups are 2 1/2 inches in height - and the rim measures just over 3 /4 inches in diameter. The saucers are 5 1/2 inches in diameter. The sugar bowl is 2 inches in height by 5 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches.
I have taken lots of images of the set for your interest.
