These little Aller Vale Pottery Cats are highly collectable.
The Aller Vale Pottery was formed in 1865 at the village of Kingskerswell in South Devon. In 1881 the company under the directorship of John Phillips started to produce fine art pottery. When he died in 1897, the business was taken over by Hexter, Humpherson & Co., who later purchased the Watcombe Terra-Cotta Co. and amalgamated the two firms in 1901. The company then became Royal Aller Vale & Watcombe Pottery Co. and generally the pottery from 1901 used Watcombe, Royal Aller Vale and other wording in the marks.
This is a genuine antique one and dates to the late 19th century - and is marked ALLER VALE DEVON on the base of one of his paws, as photographed. The little cat is known as a "Winking Cat" and he has a slightly grotesque grimacing fate - with his right eye folded shut and his glass amber left one stares out at you. He is always a collectable piece of Victorian Arts and Crafts pottery.
This one is a bit rarer as his left eye is glass - and you more often find the right one is glass. So a hard to find one. He is also in perfect condition with no damages. My asking price takes this into account.
Dimensions: Height is 6 inches. The width is 4 3/4 inches and the depth is 2 1/2 inches.
