This is a stylish 1900s Austrian Bronze inkwell. It is marked on the base: GESCHUTZT, Impresse and Real Bronze.
It is very simple in detail - but very stylish. It has a continental Jugendstil / Secessionist shape and decoration. It is triangular with round corners and has lovely undulating and sweeping shapes in the form.
The inkstand is in good condition and I love the little Secessionist Vampire-type figure which is incised on the front of the ink well section of the stand. I have never seen another Austrian inkwell with this motif on it.
The stand is in good antique condition and nice and shiny.
It comes with a little cube-shaped cut glass inkwell - this fits snuggly into the aperture in the stand - but may not be original to the stand - but looks just the part when teamed up. The inkwell has faceted corners all around. It has a brass collar around the aperture and a faceted hinged stopper on the top. There are some tiny fleabites on the glass of the inkwell - but you can't see these when the inkwell is on display. It would be easy to get a replacement inkwell for the stand. However, the stand is so rare you might wish to overlook the wee nibbles on the well. This is taken into consideration with my pricing.
It is a lovely antique piece of Austrian bronze - and will certainly look great on a desk or as an addition to a collection of a specialist collector.
It can to sent to you in the UK with Royal Mail Recorded Delivery (Small Parcel). This will be applied to your order at the checkout.
