This figure relates to the Franco-Prussian war. (1870). The conflict was between the Second French Empire and the North German Confederation led by the Kingdom of Prussia. It lasted from 19 July 1870 until 28 January 1871.
This is an attractive figure of William I, King of Prussia. It is shown in full military uniform on horseback. The model is titled on the base on raised letters in dull gilt gold. The King is shown wearing a plumed bonnet, a tunic with epaulettes on the shoulders, an orange clock, breeches with a black stripe and knee high leather riding boots. He holds an orange coloured scroll in his left hand and his other one holds onto the reigns of his horse.
In front of him is a cannon and the wheel from the gun carriage. There are three cannonballs and I think perhaps a black French hat.
He is a nice large figure: measuring some 12 inches in height. He is 8 1/4 inches wide and with a depth of 3 inches. The model is in excellent condition with lovely period bright coloured. The horse's leg is without damage I think there is a little restoration to the tip of his bonnet - but no noticeable on display. Indeed, he displays very well indeed. There is a bit of crazing to the glaze - but this is more confined to the reverse and not prominent on the front. It is a nice piece and hard to find now. It is listed here at a very fair price. Perhaps one for the more specialist Staffordshire collector.
This figure often is seemed paired up with the figure of Marshal MacMahon. Patrice de Mac-Mahon (1808- 1893) was a marshal of France and the second President of the Third French Republic.
The figurine would be very carefully packed and sent to you with Parcelforce24. I would also taken out private insurance to cover loss or damage to ceramics in transit.
