This is a stunning vintage Scottish Caithness Glass paperweight.
It was made in 1997 by the celebrated Caithness glass designer, Colin Terris (CT- 1418). It is from a limited edition of 1995 (closed at 1995) and this one is No. 1082
The title of the weight is Saladin and it was inspired by the Caliph and Chief Vizier of Egypt - who conquered Jerusalem and defeated the Crusaders.
It is a high-domed egg-shaped weight with a cut-away and polished viewing window to the front. It is two-tone - with an aqua green to the rear and clearer to the front. This device makes the main focal area look like it is seen in a cave or grotto.
The base has a carpet of teeny-weeny controlled bubbles. In the centre is a larger clear air bubble that is surrounded by a lively pink swirl. This reminds me of Saladin's cloak caught in the desert winds and flutters in the heat.
This is such a stunning Scottish weight. I love the shape, colours and skill in making this one. It is in good vintage condition and looks great in your collection.
The height 3 1/2 inches and with a diameter of 3 inches at the widest point. Unpacked it is 750 grams.
