Sylvia von Hartmann was born in 1942 and brought up in Hamburg. She studied at Edinburgh College of Art from 1963-66.
Initially, she taught at Coventry College of Art but has spent most of her time in Scotland since then.
She has been elected RSW, SSA and SSWA; and her work is in numerous collections including the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.
This is a fine and much sought after drawing by von Hartmann. It is beautifully presented with a new mount and thin oak frame. It had originally been on display at the 2002 Von Hartmann exhibition at the Scottish Gallery. It was catalogue No. 25. It was sold. The old label has been attached to the back of our new frame. The drawing is in excellent condition with no issues. I will look fabulous on display.
The drawing has not been signed by von Hartmann - but she regularly did not sign her drawings. It is instrantly identifiable by her unique style.
The drawing has been made using gouache and pigmented wax resists - she did certainly love using waxes on her drawings. She imported special waxes from Germany which allowed her to use them in work. The drawing shows here love of plants and her interest in botanics. she has formed an attractive and highly detailed composition. It is certainly a very heartfelt and personal study.
It is a large drawing. Dimensions: Frame is 59 x 46 cm. The image size is 34 x 22 cm.
I have taken lots of images for your inspection. Sylvia von Hartmann's works are currently highly sought after. The quality of this unique art and how it is presented - all ready to hang straight on your wall - is reflected in my asking price.
