This is a fine decorative watercolour painting by the Scottish contemporary artist James Campbell Brady.

It is signed in pencil in the lower right corner.

It is titled "MacIntosh" or Mac-an-Toaiseach (son of the chief).

The composition reminds me a little of the shapes used by Charles Rennie Mackintosh in some of his tile designs (especially those found in the stairwell of the GSA building and at Hill House in Helensburgh). The colours and composition remind me of in particular of Mackintosh's 1896 watercolour "The Tree of Influence". The circular motif also appears in Mackintosh's watercolour "Tree of Personal Effort". The re-working of these motifs appears to be a very personal interpretation by Brady.

Not much is known about the artist, but his work is certainly very competent and attractive.  It will certainly look fabulous hanging in a modern interior.

The work had previously featured in a selling exhibition at the Gallery of the late William Hardie in Glasgow.

The pictures are beautifully present and ready to hang on your wall.
