This is a very fine early original watercolour painting by the Scottish artist Jane Hyslop. She was only 22 years old when she painted this lovely Italian landscape study - so now a rare early work by her.
Jane Hyslop studied at Edinburgh College of Art from 1985-1989. Her work is in many prominent public collections, including the Yale Centre for British Art, the Tate Gallery, the City Art Centre, Edinburgh, the Scottish Mining Museum, Birmingham Museums & Art Gallery, etc.
Jane Hyslop currently teaches Drawing & Painting at the ECA; with a special interest in Artists' Books and Printmaking.
This beautiful watercolour dates from 1989 and shows a breathtaking view across the rooftops at Verona. The painting reveals Hyslop’s long-standing fascination with the built environment and it is full of carefully observed detail, as well as revealing her love of colour & pattern.
This fine watercolour was originally purchased in the 1980s by the artist and writer, Jack Firth from the Open Eye Gallery.
