Sylvia von Hartmann was born in 1942 and brought up in Hamburg. She studied at Edinburgh College of Art from 1963-66.
Initially, she taught at Coventry College of Art but has spent most of her time in Scotland since then.
She has been elected RSW, SSA and SSWA; and her work is in numerous collections including the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.
This is a fine lithograph by von Hartmann - it dates to 1990 and is number 5 out of a very small limited edition of only 30 impressions. It is signed in white pencil, lower right.
Apologies for any reflections / white flashing in my photographs of the work - with its black background it was rather tricky to photograph the image through the glass of the frame.
The work is entitled, Autumn. It has a rather Japanese still-life feel to the design. The image consists of three oblong panels set against a black background - and it features fish and little portrait studies. Seaweeds, text, and envelopes also feature in the composition.
This lovely print is beautifully presented with a cream colour mount and with a good quality heavy oak frame. The work was originally retailed through the Open Eye Gallery - when they were based in Cumberland Street in Edinburgh (their label is on the back of the frame, as photographed).
Frame size: 64 x 54 cm. Image size: 41 x 33 cm.
Nice and clean and in good condition - ready to hang on your wall.
