This is a rare antique lithograph (zincograph) by the Scottish artist, James Pittendrigh MacGillivray (1856 - 1938).
He did a series of these prints - with coloured inks on buff or grey-coloured papers. This one is entitled Summer. The image size is 22.70 x 14.80 cm. Many of these images by MacGillivrary were published in Patrick Geddes' "The Evergreen".
This image represents Summer and shows a nymph basking in the sun. I love the big abstract sun in the top left-hand corner, Little butterflies flit about in the top right corner. On the ground, there is a selection of flowers.
There is a selection of these prints (including this one of Summer) in the collection of the National Galleries of Scotland - so they are of museum quality and cultural interest.
These lithographs were made in small numbers and do not appear on the market very often. This one is in good condition. The sheet has never been laid down or glued onto an old backing card. The sheet is a buff colour favoured by Macgillivray and it is printed with a terracotta coloured ink. We have had it professionally framed and it is ready for you to hang on your wall.
Image size is 22.5 x 15 cm.
