This is an attractive vintage paperweight made by John Deacons.
It is not signed in the centre with an StK Cane (for Saint Kilda)
The ground is a cranberry pink colour. The paperweight has nine radial half spokes with little tutti fruitti millefiori canes in between. There is a central single cane surrounded by a rosette. This cane is the StK one. My Deacons paperweight looks rather like an early traditional Strathearn paperweight.
John Deacons, trained at the Edinburgh College of Art and started his career at Strathearn Glass, in 1967. He then set up J Glass (see my examples on this site) Around 1978, John Deacons made paperweights for Saint Kilda Island signed with an StK signature cane. These paperweights were simpler millefiori weights made to market in Europe. My weight still has its original label on the base - this would have originally read: Made in Scotland - but the lettering has now disappeared.
It measures 2 3/4 inches in diameter and with a height of 2 inches. Unpacked it weighs: 400 grams. It is in perfect condition with no damage of any kind.
It will cost £5.50 with Royal Mail Recorded post. This will be applied to your order at the checkout.
HISTORY: Deacons Glass is a family-run studio that is still situated in Crieff, Scotland. The town has a long history of art glass manufacturing starting over 50 years ago in 1964 with Strathearn Glass, followed by Perthshire paperweights in 1968, J Glass in 1978 and finally Deacons Glass in 1980. John started as an apprentice with Strathearn Glass in 1967 but within a year was asked by the manager Stuart Drysdale to join his Perthshire Paperweights start-up team. It was here that John gained a thorough grounding in all aspects of running a glass studio.
