This is a collectable antique souvenir made to commemorate the Scottish National Exhibition on 1908. This was held at the Meadows in Edinburgh.
The souvenir is a wooden stanhope in the shape of a bottle. It can be taken apart and turned into a little working pipe. The middle section of the wooden bottle unturns and is lined with a white metal screw section. You then find a little pipe bowl inside which slots into a little hole on the side of the bottle, as photographed. The pipe is in excellent condition and as you can see, it has never been used. You look through the little spyhole at the cork part of the bottle and you can see a photographic image of the site of the exhibition. It has an inscription below which reads “Scottish National Exhibition, Edinburgh 1908. Perspective View of Buildings and Ground”. The exterior bottle has a similar incised inscription.
The little photograph in the stanhope is impossible for me to photograph - but rest assured it is in excellent condition.
These International Exhibition souvenirs are much sought after – and this one is in particularly fine condition with no damages. It is 5 ½ inches in length and has a diameter of 1 ¼ inches.
Given its age and condition - I am listing at a fair price. It will be sent to you with Royal Mail Tracked (Small Parcel) service. This will be applied to your order at the checkout.
