This is a rare limited edition paperweight - made by the Caithness glass designer, Allan Scott
It is annotated with the title and issue details on the base.
This is a much rarer and much sought-after weight.
It is from a very small edition of only 250 (fully subscribed). This is Number 41.
The title is ICE FLOWER - and it is domed or egg-shaped.
This weight was always an expensive item as it was difficult to make and would have involved a lot of time and skill to have made it - on its original issue, it was retailed at specialist shops for £175.
It is a very subtle weight - with the emphasis more on changes or texture and shapes.
It is egg-shaped with a rounded point to the apex. On each side of the egg, there are flat, polished facet elongated oval viewing windows - and these are polished clear. The exterior has a white frosted finish - which is cut into with deeply engraved lines from top to bottom of the weight - and creates clear furrows in the weight. When you look through the viewing panels you can see a little tall oval-shaped air bubble in the centre which is surrounded by tall fingers forming two-tone blue latticino flumes. Gosh! it has it all this one!
It is in excellent vintage condition with no chips or cracks.
Dimensions: Height is 4 1/2 inches. The diameter at the widest point is 3 1/4 inches.
The weight unpacked is 925 grams.
