This is a very fine hand-painted piece of early 20th century Bough pottery. This is an attractive vase with twin handles. It is rather a strange shape with its round body section and square neck.

My lovely vase has been beautifully decorated by Richard Amour, as initialed on the base. It is also inscribed with the number 23, so I am assuming that this dates this pot to 1923.

The main body is coated to the bottom with a rich Royal blue colour. The top has a white background with hand-painted fruiting vine with bunches of plump, juicy black grapes. The neck and handles are a dark purple colour.

The height is 6 inches and from handle to handle it is 7 inches. In excellent condition with no damages.

Bough Pottery was founded by Elizabeth Amour in the 1920s. They specialized in decorating blanks which they bought in from pottery companies in England and Scotland (many from Maling Pottery, Newcastle).

This beautiful vase was made by Elizabeth's brother, Richard. He lived from 1900 to 1949.

Interest in Bough pottery has been of particular interest of late. My asking price here reflects renewed interest in the pottery as well as the rarer large size of this piece and the quality of the painting.
