These are a pair of very pretty little antique Scottish pottery plates.
On offer here are the two plates, as shown in the photographs.
They date to around the 1920s or early 1930s and are hand-painted.
They are painted on pottery "blanks" and are probably by one of the East Coast potteries: Bough or Mak Merry.
The earthenware blanks were probably supplied by Maling and Sons, Newcastle-on-Tyne, and used by one of the East Coast, Scottish Art Potteries.
There are no Mak Merry or Bough marks on the base. But an artist's signature: L. McK. So perhaps a trainee painter at the pottery.
They are certainly very painterly with a pattern on purple flowers and red and green apples. There is a big sunshine yellow band to the center. Each plate is in pretty good condition with no chips or cracks.
There is one issue with the decoration on one plate, where a couple of the flowers has had one of the purple flowers has been smudged at the painting stage. This has been done in the making and is under the glaze. I have photographed this for you.
CONDITION: In good condition for pieces nearly 100 years old; no chips or cracks. Fabulous display pieces for hanging on your wall or standing in your china cabinet.
The diameter of each plate is 8 inches.
