This is a lovely pair of vintage Scottish stoneware shallow bowls or small serving dishes. They rare and hard to source Buchan pattern. This might not have been one of their more successful designs - as they are now hard to find. The shape is a standard shape and size for Buchan, but the Celtic knotwork design is rare. The colouring on each bowl is slightly different but the shape is the same.
I am listing each little dish at £15 each which is a fair price for this pattern. They are probably items for the more specialist Buchan collector.
They are very handy for formal Scottish dining. They were made by Buchan Pottery, who were based at Portobello, near Edinburgh (now closed). The pottery was established in Portobello in 1867 and ceased production there in 1972. The pottery then relocated to Crieff and permanently closed in 2000.
They probably date to the 1960s and are in perfect condition, as photographed. Each dish is of a smaller size with a diameter of 4 1/8 inches. Both are in perfect condition.
