This is a large Buchan stoneware jugs. I have taken photographs of it standing next to my massive one to show the differential in size. It is a great display piece of a large and rather dominating scale. down. The large jug is also for sale in my store.
This mid-century vintage stoneware handled jug or pitcher was made by Buchan Pottery, who were based at Portobello, near Edinburgh (now closed).
It is certainly large piece of Scottish Pottery - standing at 8 inches in height. It has a diameter at the base of 5 inches. From handle to spout it is 6 1/2 inches. It weights 1 kg unpacked.
This lovely pattern called Hebrides (one of my favourite Buchan patterns). This features a stylised abstract pattern of yellow and blue zigzag lines and stripes. Apart from its exceptional size, it is also a special piece as it is marked (in the factory) Sample. These sample pieces would have been held at the factory as reference pieces showing what the finished designs should look like - or as sample to show potential clients for them to select products to stock in their china shops.
This one is very special as it has written in pencil by a pottery at the Buchan factory details of the pot size and design, as photographed.
Obviously, these sample pieces are rarer items to find. This is all reflected in my asking price (especially with the very rare pencil factory inscription on the base). A traditionally popular pattern in the Buchan Stoneware range with a good mid-century modern feel to the design.
A most lovely coffee pot in excellent vintage condition. Postage will be with Royal Mail Tracked (Medium Parcel) and applied to your order at the checkout.
